    1962 Jack Question

General consensus seems to be that the jack was dip painted. Many believe that included the bearing. At the recent Lowes meet a very knowledgeable C-1 type pointed out that the bearing is not sealed.
That would mean that it could not be dipped in paint. If that is true then the bearing and the retaining pin should not be painted. I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas.

    Thanks

    Re: 1962 Jack Question

    John:

Maybe not enough of the original paint to be absolutely sure, but from a careful inspection i'd say that the bearing and retaining and limit pins were never painted.
Not a certainty, but a high probability...and yes the bearing is open.

Hope this doesn't add to the confusion.

      Re: 1962 Jack Question

I remember someone telling me that the screw was inserted backwards through the unthreaded end without the bearing etc, and was hung this way resulting in the partial painting of the shaft up to the threads and the entire jack assembly.
