The 1993 JM (extra one at home) says the spring is painted gloss black which I think the current JM also states. What loop do you have on your hold down spring, single or double. The JM calls for a double, but what I believe to original for my 67, it is a single loop.

66 jack hold down

Rick,

I can tell you that my late July build date '66 has the original spring/hook and it is the single-side hook style. I think the '66 JG is also wrong on this point.

Best I can recall 66 was mixed between 1 and 2 hooks and all of 67 was two hooks. Saying that all 63, 64 and 65's had one hook as best I can remember.

I see that the 66 Tech Manual indicates the "Jack Retainer" (should be "Spring Asm") is a single loop. The 66 AIM on page F217 shows a double hook spring, which is what my Nov. 65 has. Which is correct??

Well, looks like my June 67 with its single hook has had its jack retainer replaced at some point in its life. Funny that after finding so many original things on my car that you find something so insignificant that is not likely original.
