Re: interesting read
I've always wondered why Corvette owners (those on CF in particular) will believe that a small company with limited resources could come close to developing a product superior to those of the major refiners like Exxon Mobil, Chevron, BP et al from whom the snakeoil peddlers buy their blending feedstocks...imagine the disparity that must exist in the laboratory facilities and salaried brainpower. But...you soon learn...don't stand between a man and his snakeoil.

What are your thoughts on using asynthetic motor oil in a new rebuilt motor?
Say a 265cu. V8?
My son owned a 1993 S-15 Jimmy 4.6L that had Mobil One Synthetic Oil
installed from delivery date to when he sold it. Had over 160,000 miles
and still ran great. No oil consumption.
What about an older motor?
Ideas?
Karl.

Re: interesting read
Good article! Everyone should read, but you're still going to see posts on the Internet (hopefully not here) asking: Should I use Super Duper Synthetic Whazzo oil (or oil addtive) in my engine. They say it increases mileage 5 percent, increases power 10 percent, and reduces engine wear by 50 percent.
If I had a nickel for every bull...
It's all about selecting the best API service category and proper viscosity range for the vintage and use of the car. Then buy on price. A ten year old, given the education that everyone here has received, should be able to make the right choice.

Re: interesting read
Actually, when they (STP) sponsored a drag race, my wife called me at work and said there is a truck in front of the house from STP for the sponsored race. I told her to have them put it in the garage( we had a one car garage). She said they can't, there are 4 pallets of stuff. They linned the length of the driveway with pallets. One pallet 48 cases of STP oil trearment. One pallet STP gas treatment, one mixed pallet of STP radiator and transmission treatment. The fourth pallet was cases of jackets, banners, flags, fence banners and boxes and boxes of STP decals. The reps name was Colonel Haskel Beavers. I'll never forget him. Dale- Top

....I had a 1986 Ford 2.9L V6 automatic 2WD Ranger that I drove for 14yrs til the body was practically falling off that had 189,000mi on it changing the oil & filter religiously every 4,000mi using only Castrol GTX 5W-30. My current '99 Ranger just turned 98,000mi using the same oil. Both consumed "no oil whatsoever" in between changes.
...my wife's '99 Lexus RX 300 has 339,000mi on it with whatever the dealer puts in it. Forgot the point of the post.- Top

Re: interesting read
I bought a 1986 Corvette new and used whatever was oil was in it from the plant and whatever the dealer put in. Almost 170,000 miles and never had to add oil between recommended changes and it still ran like new. I think the recommended changes are more important then the brand or type of oil you use except where sythetic is recommended. Most manufactures I believe recomment Mobile 1 when they recommend synthetic. The exception is older engins that may require addatives not in modern oils. Ed- Top
