    C2 Trip Odometer Reset Sticks

No problem resetting the mileage, but it is difficult to get the trip odometer to reengage by pulling out the knob. Ideas, please.

I'm not sure is a C3 is similar, but when my 70's acted this way I found that the Odo reset cable was bent and pinched behind "stuff" under the dash. When I relieved the bind, it worked fine. Good luck

Cable isn't kinked. If it was, I couldn't reset the mileage counter easily. But thanks for your post.

Re: C2 Trip Odometer Reset Sticks

The reset cable is spring loaded such that it should 'pop' into the fully extended/engaged position after being reset. This is an area where improper operation can result in damage...

Few use the trip feature and the reset cables tend to sit with dysuse for MANY years. That can result in lube inside the cable 'pooling' and upper parts of the cable (interior) oxidizing causing 'sticky' operation.

The 'fix' is to remove the reset cable, thoroughly clean it to remove 'crusted' internal lube. Then, apply fresh cable lube and exercise the cable (round and round + in/out) until she's working smoothly once again.

On the 'damage' issue, if the cable fails to fully re-engage the trip drive gear, it can 'hang' between it's engaged and disengaged positions. The result can be gear tooth clash that winds up damaging the drive gear. Then, you're looking at pulling the speedo assy and sending 'er out for an overhaul!

So, get the reset function working fresh again and remember to periodically use/exercise the feature. Plus, until you're satisfied that the cable's spring loaded return feature is working correctly, using your hand to pull the cable down to FORCE a drive gear re-engagement after doing a reset is wise!

Thanks, Jack. That's next on my list for the '65.
