My 1960 windshield frame has a gap outside of the wiper arm holes about 4-5 inches long.. Both sides are the same. My windshield glass has been broken for years. The frame is also old and unrestored. I am trying to get my frame to fit better to the body. I am doing a body-off. I have seen other straight-axles with this same gap problem. Again, the gap is only to the outside of each wiper arm hole. I have tried moving the frame every which way, but the same issue. I have added new frame weatherstrip. A small uniform gap is what I want. Any experience with this? Thanks DG

Re: 1960 Windshield Frame Fit?
Actually I'd check the AIM to see what they might have done.
I know this is not unusual. My solid axle source won't be back in town for a day or two if you don't have an answer by then. I know he's faced this and fixed it.

Re: 1960 Windshield Frame Fit?
That is not normal--original cars without windshield replacement did not have that. I've had that problem a couple of times when I've replaced the windshield and then put the assembly back on the car. It has to do with how the lower stainless piece fits on the lower channel it rides on.
It is a very frustrating a time-consuming process, but the only thing that I have found is to take it all back off, take it all apart, and refit that stainless on the lower channel.
I don't have a clear recollection of how I finally got it to sit down farther on the channel--I do have a very clear recollection of the pain.- Top
