    Ipod or MP3 Player?

For those of you that use them, which one do you prefer and why?

I think the ipod is more popular but I think more songs are available in MP3 format so I'm on the fence right now. Then again I might be wrong on both counts which brings me back to my original question...

I have 7070 songs on my ipod and it is not quite half full. You can load any CD you have or down load from itunes. Push shuffle option and you have your own radio station of songs of your choice. 119 days 24 hours a day with no repeat. Remember, I'm only half of capacity on my 60 gig. Who could ask for more? Paul
    It's a good life!

An Ipod is an MP3 player. Having said that I will say I think Ipod is overpriced, although I must admit both my wife and I use ipods.

Definitely an ipod. Better yet, just get an iPhone and have everything on one device.

I have an IPOD touch screen and use it in my newer Vette. It's capacity far exceeds the 300 or so songs I have already downloaded that I consider my all time favorites. You can sort music by artist, genre or shuffle for endless, random play. You can also set up a dock for it that plays like a stereo for listening at home.

I am far from a techno-nerd but really love this thing.

              Greg,

I vote iPod. One thing that hasn't been mentioned so far is sound quality. I'm an audiophile from way back. I use the Apple Lossless Coding (ALC), which Stereophile says is indistinguishable from the original (CD). You can choose which coding you want, which is a tradeoff between sound quality and storage spare. I believe mine is the 120 GB version. Even using ALC it's only half full if I remember correctly. It has at least 2500 songs on it.

Go Ipod... Get the "Touch" Yep it is a bit overpriced but it works and works well, along with iTunes which you can download and install for free. I have music from my CD collection, photos of my car some audio books (join your local library and download) as well as podcasts which you can either watch or listen to. There are many free and almost free applications which you can load...... i.e. turn your iPod into an HP12C calculator...

You da man Kenny. Nothing beats the sound of that 8 track changing tracks. I am particularly fond of the times when it plays multiple tracks at the same time. Who needs high fidelity when you have a single, center mount dash speaker?

                        Hi Greg,

Like most of the others, I vote for an iPod. I have an 8-gig 3rd generation video nano, whose capacity is miniscule compared to some of the others but I liked the tiny size, and I wanted a flash memory model (no hard drive whose moving parts could fail).

Finally, while iPods are overpriced, you have the benefit of a dizzying selection of compatible accessories, boom boxes, etc., from Apple and other manufacturers to choose from, many available at considerable discount.

                        Good luck whatever your choice.

                        Louis

Another vote for IPOD. I have a "standard size" one. My wife has a "Nano".

I use the FM modulator feature. It's not "hard wired" in. I choose a channel with no broadcasting on it. It works fine in ALL of my old cars.

I really like the iPod as well. The interface is so simple. I've got the 30GB standard unit and it served us well on our long distance trip last summer. 90+% of my music is recorded off of my CDs. I still like the comfort of the physical back up.

What I especially like is having it hard wire connected to the Ken Harrison replacement radio in my C2 combined with a replacement stereo dash speaker and 2 kickpanel speakers. OK it wouldn't judge well but it sounds so much better than the mono dash speaker. I have my hardwire plugged into the back of the radio and routed into the glove box through the lamp hole (no new holes in the glove box). I then used some simple plastic wire clips attached to the standard glove box screws to route the wire to the side. The result is a pretty clean installation that could be returned to standard without much effort.

Nothing beats cruising with the top down and good tunes pouring out of the roadster!

                            Cheers,
