    Body Rotisere

Has anyone used a body rotisere for a midyear roadster? If so, did it work well and where did you get it? Price also?

    Thanks,

    Jerry

    Jerry,

I'm not sure how you would hook one up. You'd have to go to the birdcage, but the front and back of the body will rack from it's own weight when you turn it. I don't know how you would support the unattached part of the body.

As for price, etc., they vary greatly. I've only borrowed them and will eventually own one, and I know that there are a lot of mediocre and bad ones and you don't want one of those.

The best comments that I've heard are about those made by Accessible Systems of Johnson City, TN, although there are several other manufacturers. Accessible's prices are from $1,400 to $2,000.

I've also seen many people build thier own, although I have not used one of these. There are lots of plans on the internet to do it yourself.

One of our chapter members built his own as he needed to do extensive undercarriage repair on his '63 Coupe. It supported the entire car (tip to tail) and was motorized for rotation position + stop/hold. Worked great!

Sounds like a great topic for a Restorer article! I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking it would be great to see how it was done.

I have two that I bought from Autotwirler. You have to get the adapter for a midyear, then buy a 20ft piece of 3x3 square tubing locally. It works great. Supports the body at all body mounts except the core support (and extra mount for conv's) mounts in 3 locations each side. I have used it on coupes and convetibles with no problems. We use it on every car. Let me know if you need any pictures of how it works or where and how it mounts to the body.

            Jeremy,

Pictures would be a great help for me.

            Thanks,

              Joel:

Go to www.mckennasgarage.com and select the Jag restoration. Bill built his own and describes the process, as I recall. There are also probably some other good articles on the web.

If you go to my website hedgescorvttes.com and click on photo gallery, you can scroll though the pictures amd see several pics of a 66 convertible on the rotisseri. I currently have a 63 SWC on the rotisseri right now. I tried to add the pictures from my website with no luck. I would be happy to to an article or take more pictures about how to use the rotisseri.
