Can anybody tell me the correct diameter cooling fan used on a BB car L-36. Is it 17 1/8 or the 17 1/2" 5 blade. Non a/c car/4spd. thanks

Re: 67 engine fan
Mark, as I'm sure you're aware, it's kind of difficult to get an exact measurement without using a jig with straight edges, but I would call mine 17 and 1/2 inch. The reality, is that depending on how you take the measurment with a tape measure, getting around the pitch of the blades, it comes up a hair under 17 and 1/2 inch on the best side to run a tape down.
This fan I've attached photos of is off my 43,000 mile, barn-find L68 bigblock '67. The finish you are seeing on it, is the result of bead-blasting, and then spraying with black etching primer. It has not had it's top coat of paint yet.
I'm certain this is in fact the original colling fan. Non air-conditioned 427.
Hope this helps. Ridge
p.s. anyone who has read many of my previous posts knows that I am addicted to, and quite a "supportive fan" of the use of CORRECT era, NOS vintage, service replacement parts. This is one of the few major components of a '67 big block Corvette, that in my opinion, one cannot find a NOS part, or a reproduction that is 100% identical to an assembly line part. And trust me, I have throughly researched it, and have purchased two different NOS fans from the early 1970s era. A '67 big block owner is left with finding a nice, used original part for the top flight quality restoration, if the original fan is missing IMHO.
