    Cylinder Heads for a 60

Which Cylinder heads are correct for my car. My serial number is 1270 which makes it an early 60 build. 3774692 or 3767465. Stewy

Re: Cylinder Heads for a 60

Various sources (Corvette Black Book + NCRS Judging Guide) agree that the change from '465 to '692 cylinder head castings was 'clean' coinciding with the model year change over for 1960. Now, that doesn't mean this information is 100% correct and without exception, but that's the current belief...

Thanks Jack, the 692 's you think ran from the model change. Did they still use the 692's in 61. They are very scarce and most people want a handful of cash for a set. Stewy

Yes, '692 heads were used in '61 as well. The replacement was '461 heads making their debut with the 327 in 1962. So, you're looking for a 2-year part.

Pricey--what's new? This hobby/sport is an exercise in anti-entropy (move everything back to 'Big Bang' status) and the older parts get more scarce each day. BUT, they're still out there and you'll pay the big-$ IF you're in a hurry...

It surprises me that the 3774692 are more difficult and expensive to find than the 3767465. The 3767465 was only used for part of the 1959 model year whereas the 3774692 was used for 2 full model years. So, I would expect that a lot more 3774692 heads were originally manufactured.

In any event, I don't think there's much external difference between the two cylinder head castings.

Your dead right Joe. The castings are the same between the 465 -692's. Besides the dates. The 465 heads would be very hard to find.
If only the judges would allow me to use a set of AFR Alloys that would be magic !!!!!!!!!

CORRECT you are! 1961 WAS the debut year for '461 heads, but their use was restricted to FI engines. The balance of the '61 engines used the '692 heads. I should have been more specific...
