OK, the below 1956 engine block (991 casting) is on Ebay. I asked for a picture of the engine pad. It is actually a pretty good pictures of his tennis shoe.
Hard to see, but the numbers stamped, one character at at time, are F 0 1 1 6 F K. I guess that is supposed to be Flint engine, assembled January 16th, for a single four barrel powerglide Corvette.
1. Uses a 57 and later engine code format (56 had the sequence numbered followed by F56FK)
2. Engine assembly date is Jauuary 16th...engine casting date is March 29th.
3. Characters stamped individually (no gang holder)
4. No leading zero for the month in this time frame.
I guess I should not expect much. I remember seeing a 74 454 car many years ago that had a restamped engine. Engine had been decked, and the owner restamped the front pad....with the block casting number.
You can't make this stuff up
To be fair, the ad does say that the engine has a bad restamp.
