Can someone post a picture of the rear engine pull bracket for a 1971 SB. I am trying to find one to purchase for my 71 LT-1 and I'm not sure what it looks like--I have seen several different ones and they were supposedly all for a 1971 bu they all were different. Thanks Paul

Re: 1971 Rear Engine Pull Bracket (Small Block)
Depends if your Corvette has a manual of TH400, and there was a thread on this very subject -- although it references a 1970 in the title -- within the last several months. It even had several pictures. It ought to be just what you need.
Edit add: Page down when you click on this thread. You will find four free (as in no effort) searches listed. When I looked -- one of those four threads was the one I referred to above.Terry- Top

Re: 1971 Rear Engine Pull Bracket (Small Block)
Thanks Terry but I did not find the pictures. What color is the rear bracket--orange. The front bracket which is still on my LT-1 is orange and the JM sys light coat of orange overspray but other threads have said silver or natural. Which is correct?- Top

OK Paul, I was wrong about that 1970 thread having the photos. So I went and used the search function.

You still haven't told us what transmission you have, so I can't answer your color question.Terry- Top

Re: 1971 Rear Engine Pull Bracket (Small Block)
Paul:
I believe these are the correct brackets (see Paragon pic).
I had a similar question on the rear pull bracket.
1) I believe it connects to the right-most bolt (just above starter)
2) Does the small hook point towards the engine or trans?Attached Files- Top

Re: 1971 Rear Engine Pull Bracket (Small Block)
Here's another pic that I was planning to post.
Is this the correct hole to mount the rear pull bracket?
I assume the small hook would point towards the engine, but would appreciate any advice on this one.

Re: 1971 Rear Engine Pull Bracket (Small Block)
Hi Tom,
I believe it mounts on the next bolt up on the bell-housing.
I also believe the 'tang' faces forward.
I've always thought the 'tang' is there to stop what what ever hook you put in the eye from swiveling towards the center of the engine as you start to lift.
Based on Terry's description ... perhaps a little too much paint on this eye!

Re: 1971 Rear Engine Pull Bracket (Small Block)
Hi Terry,
I believe Tom's picture's indication puts the eye too far down the side of the engine. I typically see the eye on that upper bolt. The rounded area surrounding the bolt hole snuggles into the curve in the bell-housing at that point.
Perhaps this picture is a little clearer. You're seeing the upper rear corner of the valve cover in this view.

Re: 1971 Rear Engine Pull Bracket (Small Block)
Im still confused. Does it mount to the top bell housing bolt where its curved or the second one where its square. All the pictures doing allow you to get any perspective. Anyone have a picture of the rear engine bracket on a engine not in the car?
Thanks Paul- Top

Re: 1971 Rear Engine Pull Bracket (Small Block)
On my 72 LT-1 (engine has never been touched), the bracket is located on the top bolt by the curve, with the tab(tang) facing towards the engine. Some of the paint has flaked off, but there is orange paint on both sides and on the edges. I don't know this for a fact, but I would think that a 71 and 72 ( and maybe other 4 speed Vettes around that time ) would have the same location. I don't have a picture with the engine removed, but do a search on Google images and you should find some.- Top

Re: 1971 Rear Engine Pull Bracket (Small Block)
Glad you got it figured out. I couldn't get out to get a good photo until this morning. So, I'm including one here so it may help others with the same question. This is from my 73 L48, but it's still the same type pull, and installed in the same location. I believe the little tab (hook) helps keep the motor from rocking too much when it was lifted.Attached FilesJimmy
