    Need J21181 & J21179

    Hello;
    Looking for replacements for tilt column broken/worn Kent Moore tools;

    J 21181 tilt wheel return spring release tool.
    &
    J21179 pivot pin removal tool(s).
    These tools have an associated collar. Don't need the collar(s).

    Tried Google.
    Thanks for any help.

    Ray

    The last I went looking, decent copies of these tools were hanging on the shelf in blister pack at Pep Boys...

      Hello Jack Humphrey;

      Thanks, didn't think to look there. Will try them next time on PHX.

      Don't have pep boys in WI

        Try eBay for real ones-there'll be a lot of KM tools for sale soon.

          If I remember correctly, if the tilt spring cap has a rectangular hole use a regular screwdriver. Insert it into the slot push down and rotate the cap to disengage it. If the cap has a square hole, use a the appropriate size phillips screwdriver.

          To remove the pivot pins:

          Another method to extract the pivot pins would be to thread a 8-32 screw into the end of each pin. Grip the screw with a slam puller tool. A few quick raps should draw the pin right out. Using that same 8-32 screw you can try prying the pin out of the bearing housing using the claw end of a hammer (protecting the column parts with a piece of wood where you leverage the hammer.)

            Hello;
            Your answers are greatly appreciated.

            Quite familiar w/ tilt column repair. Just trying to upgrade my tools while there are still people around that "turned wrenches for living" back in the day.

            Thanks for your help.
