    Clutch Return Spring

Hi Everyone, this is my first visit, I own a 1962 with a 4 speed. My question is. Can anyone tell me how to hook the clutch return spring from the frame to the linkage. Pulling on that spring is a good workout, But there must be an easy way.

Hi Paul, if your car is like my 58 with a monster spring, you need to make a tool which bolts to the frame which will pull the spring and allow you to attach it. I have exact instructions on how to make the tool. Please send me a fax number and I will send it to you. There is no other way to pull the spring as far as I know. Regards Susan

Put little plates of metal (1" x 1") between each winding by bending the spring each time. The spring can be stretched this way without much force until it is long enough to attach.

      regards,
      Rob.

Robs way works. Years ago I remember just using a long screw driver and muscle.

I did this once on a 1961... if I recall correctly, I also "unadjusted" the clutch and used a prybar to get the spring on.

          Hopefully memory serves!

            Folks:

            Use a crescent wrench on the clutch cross-shaft lever. ST-12 p. 6R-9.

Very simple and works well - although not considered manly, it never hurts to read the instructions.

I use my brake spring removal tool, it works perfectly every time.

Hi Paul all you have to do is disconnect the two clutch rods from the Z bar, back up the Z bar, hook the spring to it, using an adjustable wrench on the Z bar lever ( the one that clutch fork rod goes to) and lever it over center and you done, no tools, no 2x4s, no cranes, cable winches, takes 10 seconds Phil 8063
