    carpet dye question

I just bought an 03 GMC with the dark grey carpet and there are some redish(looks burgundy) stains that won't come out. It looks like they are the remains of a 7-11 slurpee or some other drink.

Anyways I've tried scrubbing with laundry soap and water and then vacuuming it up with my shop vac but no luck. The stained area is now nice and soft like the rest of the carpet but the burgundy stain bugs me. I was wondering if it would be possible to re-dye the stained area with carpet dye?

    Any thoughts?

    Re: carpet dye question

Several years ago, I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the gray carpet. Had the same problem, the same burgundy discoloration.

I bought some spray carpet dye at a local part store, PEP Boys, Salvos, etc.

They had 2 shades of gray as I recall, "light" and "dark". I used the light. Matched pretty well, and held up well too. Whatever spilled in that area altered the original dye, IMHO. I'd spray a light coat, then with a rubber gloved hand, I'd "work" the dye down deep into the carpet fiber. Kept doing that till the stain was covered.

NO amount of scrubbing would get the burgundy color out.

3M makes a good carpet cleaner. Give it a try.

Thanks Dick, I'll try that first. I know it's water soluable because one area was hard but softened right up and is still nice and soft like the rest of the carpet after my scrubbing with laundry soap and water.

I never even got a hint of "pink" in the foam with all that scrubbing so I think it's in there pretty good but I'll give the 3M cleaner a try anyways.
