    1963 Side Emblems

I need to install these side emblems. I do not have any holes in the body and I need to drill them.

Does any one have the dimensions for the hole placements?

    Thanks

Jerry, do you have the 63 AIM? If yes, it should be in there. If no, let us know and hopefully someone can post the page.

Jerry just a note when drilling your holes, you have to drill them at an angle. so they lay flat to the fender, if you drill straight (level with the car) the emblems will not sit flat Phil 8063

Should be only one part number on the back of the flag from 63 to sometime in 66. 3827158. Commonly known as the ultra rare 158's.
Good luck on finding NOS ones. Service replacements from Chevy aren't even close to the real deal as far as paint colors go. I have seen repainted ones, etc but the paint if far too glossy.

Gerald, Don't rely on the aims for the holes. Take your time and find a nice pattern from a unmolested car. Get a pattern from both sides of the car just to be sure. JD

Good advice from John. Take your time and do it right.

A have a number of NOS emblems that I bought in the 70's. The reason I have them is because I kept ordering pairs until I could make up one good set. Even back then the painting quality left a lot to be desired, but they were very cheap then too. I guess, like any parts, the ones that could be classified as seconds ended up in the replacement parts bin. The good ones went on cars in production. I feel funny having them laying around in the house and garage, specially when I see the price they go for today. But to me they are just not good enough for a fine car.

Also, some of them have like a casting flash around the outer edges. You can carefully file it off, but if you leave them that way, a good judge will spot them as NOS or REPRO's in a heartbeat.

              I have two questions:

              1. I couldn't find the dimemsions in the AIM. Does anyone know the page #.

              2. If someone could provide me witha template from their original car, that would be great.

Thanks for the advice on the drilling also.

              Jerry

                Jerry,

The flag emblem dimensions are in section 11-13, sheet 1. This is page number 164 in my manual.

The FI emblem dimensions are in section L84, sheet five. This is page 290 in my book.
