Jack also had a contact at Enoch Chevrolet

Harry Mann Chevroletfit the bill was already fitted

Neither Sandy nor I came to work on Friday. We were at her apartment on Balboa Island breaking in the Vette. The nice lady matchmaker who headed Personnel understood how important that was.

Bill, great story, keep'en coming. Was that picture of you taken with a Poloraid? Seen to remember the swipe lines used to dry the film. Bill.

        Bill:

Great story! I wish I could have been there (California) with you to share some of the experiences. I always wanted to live there during that 1960-1970's period. So much was going on.

I did my own migration in early 1970 after graduating college......but went from Chicago to the Texas Gulf Coast to work in the chemical plants. Had many similar experiences to yours, including buying my first Corvette after starting my job.

I moved around quite a bit over the years, and again live on the Gulf Coast. I have always enjoyed the stories from California during that time period. Thanks for sharing.

        Larry

Is this breaking in process referenced in the Owner's Manual or the Chassis Service Manual?

I had a friend around that time period with a 54 Ford. It was a nice cranberry color, with a built 405 cubic inch FE engine. It also had a 4 speed trans. Many street racers were surprised by that car.
This friend never got a Vette like you did. He was sricktly a Ford guy and later got a factory 63 Galaxy Faxt Back 427 drag race car. It had Aluminum bumbers, fiberglass hood etc. It was his daily driver. The only thing he did with a Corvette is brag about how he beat Fuel Injected Vettes on the street. He got rid of the 63 before Big Block Vettes came out.

              Thanks all for the feed-back.

Bill: Yes, an old Polaroid print..you had tp swipe a print coater applicator which contained a "fixer" over the print right after you pulled it from the camera, less the developing chemicals would turn the print black....worn off in spots here as you noticed.

Mike: Veeeery good. And as thanks for explaining it in the context of our "Technical Discussion", I've attached a picture taken of Sandy in 1961....along with another picture of the Vette upon arrival.

              Thanks again,

              Bill

Very good. Documentation of the break in technician. This should be worth valuable points during Flight Judging. Well done Bill. You probably didn't even consider that back in 1961.

I really like the tie. Was Warren Biggs Chevrolet 205 So. Vermont in that area of L.A. then? Great story. Dale

                    Dale:

Warren Biggs Chevrolet, per the attached court case, was being accused in the 1960-61 timeframe by Los Angeles Chevy Dealer Associations and GM of selling cars to "Discounters".....so it was likely in business prior to that. I did not know of them in 1961, but they were there and in some hot water....at Vermont & 8th.

Great story Bill. Reminds me a lot of the day I picked up my new 63, only in Wisconsin, then driving it back to New Mexico on old 66.

Spent better part of last week in the LGB area, then down South in the new wine country at a B & B doing some tasting. Tried to find some of the sights from your list and think I spotted a couple. Man, do I dislike your gas pumps! Almost made me late turning in my rental at LGB airport (otherwise known as "a step back in time"). Took me 15 minutes to put in about 5 gallons topping up. What are those "stinky" purple trees called?
Enjoyed the experience. Took in Vegas last couple days before heading back. That must be a fairly quick drive; between Long Beach and Las Vegas as it was less than an hour by air.

                        Stu:

Most likely you are referring to the Jacaranda trees with the purple flowers. The new leaf growth in season pushes the sticky blossoms off and they fall over everything.
