    73 Alarm system

I bench checked the alarm horn and it sounds fine. Installed on the car both door switches and the hood switch make the alarm sound but it is just a pulusing chirp not an alarm. I run a ground from the battery to the horn but it's still the same. What do I need to check to get it working for the regional this weekend.

I'm not sure what you're looking for (pulsing chirp vs. alarm). The circuit is essentially the horn driven by a turn signal flasher to make the horn pulse on/off (just like a tail light blinking)...

Well it sounds an alarm but it is very low like a pulsing chirp. I need it to be much louder to pass opps.

Might be your flasher module is worn/tired and you're not getting crisp full amperage current switching...

I would suggest a new flasher, but it could be the relay is not allowing full voltage thru it to the horn. You can sometimes clean the relay contact "points" with fine emory cloth, and get a good contact.
I'd try a different flasher first, tho.

Is the relay in the jack box right beside the flasher?

                Lyle,
Yes, the relay is held by a screw into a plate while the flasher is to the left of the relay (passenger side) and held by a clip.

I think the horn is the problem. A horn that is loud when teasted on a battery won't make a sound when installed. I have had this happen many times on different cars. I got an E-mail that a $150. horn rebuild did not honk when installed but a $10. horn from the local auto parts store worked fine.

The final result was the best I could get the system to work at home was the hood sounded the alarm and both doors made a weak chirp.
At the regional all three places sounded a great alarm. I guess hauling it down the rough road through Chicago fixed an alarm I couldn't fix at home with hours of trying. I did score a 97+ so I can try the PV next.
