    63 Installing the Dash

    I was wondering if I could get a few thoughts on installing my dash. I have already installed my dash pads and ready to install the dash in the car. I was thinking about installing a few items prior installing it into the car.

    Let me know what you think on these items;

    Clock
    Radio
    Speaker and grill (but leave two nut off for the defrost)
    Cluster
    Glove Box

    I Install Clock , Radio Speaker ,grille, And Defoster Duct,when I Do A Midyear. I Think Glove Box And Cluster Make The Dash A Little Heavy To Try And Install ,plus The Bulbs For Cluster Are Tuff To Put In.

      The plant installed the dash as you noted (less the cluster and glove box); the cluster went in next (with the instrument panel wiring harness already subassembled to it off-line), and the glove box went in last.

        I vaguely remember assembling one backwards from the normal way many years ago. I installed the instrument cluster first, with all wiring and speedo/tach cables connected. The cables supported the inst housing, although a few inches lower than it's normal position.
        I then installed the dash panel.

        Connecting all of the wiring and switches/bulbs etc was much easier.

          Thanks Paul and John the dash went in with ease. I did not install the defrost because I had already hooked it up. I choose not to install the radio and just put it back there so I would not have to manuver it once the dash was installed.

          Hope to have the cluster in tonight if I have the patience to lay on my back that long.

            I recently did my 67 dash-attached the cluster, radio, clock,knobs and then made all the dash harness connections,heater cables,bulbs,etc and took the completed dash to the car (in toto) such that I only had to plug in the fuse panel to firewall connectors, and link up speedo,tach, and heater cables. I won't place the glove box until interior of car is completed. I give complete credit to Mark Love for this assy technique; he has photos detailing it on Vetteheads. Brawley
