    1973 L-82 vs L-48 Compression Ratio

The 1973 L-48 ratio is listed as 8.5:1 and the L-82 is listed as 9.0:1. How is the higher 9.0:1 ratio achieved? Are the pistons different or does the L-82 use a thinner head gasket? The heads seem to be the same except for the valve size.
    Thanks
    Jeff

L-48: slight dish, relief for valves, beveled edges as I recall.
L-82: flat top (heads are 2.02's)
