If the old cast iron glide is anything like the later aluminum unit, there could be a difference in gear ratio for low gear from one PG to another. (for example, a PowerGlide for a 327 has a different ratio low gear than one for a 283) That would also require a different ring gear for the planetary gear set.
If that's the case, that would explain the different part numbers for pass and Corv.
Edit: I just looked in a 63 printing of the parts book. I'm wrong. The rear ring gear is the same part number for both pass and Corvette so the planetary gear and shaft must be the same ratio for both.
