I do not judge C2s, but the 1970-72 judging guide makes the following statement:

Current reproduction batteries for the R89W are undetectable from original; however, R89S reproductions are molded from plastic while the originals were molded from rubber. The separators on the underside of the top of the reproduction R 89S batteries telegraph their location through the top. Original batteries do not have depressions where the separators are molded to the top. Make a deduction for this obvious configuration difference.

R89S fits the 30% standard deduction, but not R89W. This may be the reason some owners are getting 0 deduction and others 7 points.

Any current Delco replacement gets 50% credit. Are the points worth the money?

These cars are not getting any younger and we are suppose to have original batteries and tires that would be 44 years old and be in perfect working order.Gary

The objective is to have batteries and tires (or any other parts) that appear to be typical of factory production. Owners of later cars can't even buy reproduction batteries or tires that appear typical - they don't exist; that's why the Standard Deductions allow alternatives that minimize the points loss.

A current Delco replacement battery is only a 12-point deduction; that's half of the deduction for a lighter that doesn't "pop".

I have a question. Please forgive me but I just can't help myself.

There have been discussions about Restoration Battery on this forum for years with some saying they are the best battery for your restoration and a few that cannot read or take instructions down on the battery.

What I want to know is WHY something like Reproduction Radiators are heralded as being perfect and get no deductions and the Restoration Batteries take such a beating at judging meets and about every 6 months on this forum?

I can see a Reproduction Radiator from twenty paces with the sanded smooth top and the engraved dates. They are not even close to the originals however again they receive NO deductions!

OK, answer that question and don't say it's the only radiators we can purchase and they are as close as possible. That's not the question here!

And please, don't anyone take offense because of these questions. I really appreciate the efforts of anyone that tries to offer a reproduction for Corvettes or any other automobile.

I bought one of these batteries a few years ago for a 66 I restored. It lasted 1 whole year ,went dead and wouldn't take a charge. Vendor refused to do anything to correct. I will never buy another from this guy. It's a very high price to pay just for points and then still have an inferior product. Just one mans opinion.
