    Pulley Dilemma 60 Vette

Also, the Corvette resto book says a spacer is supposed to be put on the water pump as well to move the fan more forward fopr better cooling. If I did that, even if the 1/8th spacer was on the crankshaft, the pulleys would not align, so this is a complete mystery.

    Thx for any advice.

There is a GM reinforcement taht fits on the inside of the water pump pulley between the flange and the pulley. There was also an article in Corvette Magazine about measuring the distance of the water pump flange before rebuilding a water pump. You may need to have the flange pressed on a little farther. I have had the same problem with my 62.

That spacer goes between the fan and the pulley. It is aluminum and approx. 2" in length. It is used only if you don't have the optional clutch fan.

Ahh, thanks Jim for the clarification. I will buy that part.

Any ideas on the distance between the two pulleys when installed? Only about a 1/16th inch gap between both outside edges of the pulleys when installed. Seems to close to me.

        Thx,

        Jim

Okay, you made me go look. Without putting it on the lift and actually measuring it, I would say it's somewhere between 1/16" and 1/8" but definately not any more.

The clearance on mine is about .004 between pullies. Old feeler gauge.
