    striped threads....

    All,
!966 327 engines used a Holley 3367 with externally adjustable float bowls. I have managed to strip the threads (3/8 X 32) to the point where the float will not hold it's sitting. Does anyone know of a repair method for the bowl? I tried Heli-coil, but they don't make an insert in this size. I really don't want to replace the bowl. What's my next option? Thanks, Bill

Check for a TimeSert. There may not be enough meat around the screw for this fix, or they may not be available in the right size -- but they do work much better than HeliCoil.

      Re: striped threads....

i just found one of my brass inserts and it was a interference fit of .002 into a .4375 reamed hole in the float bowl not a slip fit. been a few years since i have done these. you will need to run the tap back thru the insert after the fit as the threads will squeeze in a little. you can press fit or shrink fit the insert. shrink fit is better, just use some dry ice on the insert. the insert is .187 thick. use a .375 rod in the drill press chuck thru the needle/seat hole to align the bowl in the vise and then ream with a .4375 reamer.

Terry, I Googled TimeSert, like HeliCoil, they do not offer a repair kit in 3/8 X 32 thread size, 3/8 X 24 is as fine as they go. Looks like a nice system though. Thanks, Bill

several of the carb rebuilders can fix it for you.

Call Holley and buy a bowl. In the long run you'll be better off. You can also find plenty of them at your local speed shop.
