    Factory side pipe question...

I know my '67 had sidepipes installed at the factory and I believe I have those same pipes on my car now. Are the pipes stamped with a part #? What about later NOS over the counter sidepipes, part number or not? Thanks PT

Patrick, I'm no side pipe expert by any means, but I too believe that my 67 has the side pipes it originally came with and I find no part number. Also, I have a set of NOS side pipes, and they have labels but no stamped numbers. Maybe the real experts will chime in.

Patrick, I was wrong about the NOS pipes; they do have the part number stamped on them. I just looked at mine again. I found nothing on the factory pipes though.

No, I don't. I can't ever remember seeing a part # on them. Some parts from the factory don't have a part # and some over the counter parts do have a #. Just wanted to know if this was the case with sidepipes. PT

              Re: Factory side pipe question...

A few years back I had my side pipes off and discovered the following stampings just before the bend from the downward side towards the side of the car. Left side pipe had "3877215" and right side pipe had "3877216".
Close to these stampings was another stamping "GM W". When I posted this info back then on the DB, John Hinckley thought these might be original pipes due to the "GM W", as Walker Manufacturing was the supplier of pipes to GM back then. I hope I restated what John said back then, as being correct. Unfortunately I didn't take pics of those stampings at the time.

OK that's what I needed. The drawing for that part number included the following note:

"Parts supplied for service must have source identification, GM trademark and GM part number embossed, rolled or etched in 0.15" min. height letters in a location visible after installation on vehicle."

                Hope this helps

Thanks to everyone, that was good information. I have my car in the shop right now for a new ragtop but I'll check it out when I get it back. PT
