    fly wheel date

Can anyone interpret the date on this fly wheel?

    http://i.ebayimg.com/06/!BUB604gBGk~$(KGrHgoH-D8EjlLlyV52BKLc31jCsg~~_1.JPG

Seller says Dec 7 1958, what's the extra "1" by the pin?
    Thanks
    Steve

    Re: fly wheel date

The only thing I can make of it is it's a factory mistake. The date emboss reads "L71 8" and the sequence is correct for castings from that era (the year digit, 8, is separated from the month/day sequence by the emboss attaching screw)...

I'd say the tooling shop loaded the emboss plate with the two day digits backwards. In other words, '71' should have been '17'...
