since the 1957 post showed, thought I would ask same on the 1963 Type 1 jack - are the repros close or not? how do they judge against our judging standard?

Re: 1963 Jack
Hi Rick,
I'm not exactly sure how the repros would judge in comparison to the real deal but I bet it would depend heavily on who is doing the judging and where it is being judged.
We have a top flight '63 vert in our chapter that has a repro jack that I quickly compared to my original. As like many other repro parts I noticed immediately what seemed like a difference in weight for starters, IMHO.

Re: 1963 Jack
Rick, Check in the archives, this was discussed before with regard to judging points and I think the general consenses is to use the repro. because it's close.- Top

Re: 1963 Jack
In my opinion, the choice of repro vs. restored original jack is a 'horns of the dilema' issue. By that, I mean you're on a teeter totter trading off originality for condition points.
Expect to pay a healthy price for a used original jack. Now, your task is to make it appear to the judges as if it shipped from the factory yesterday.
For most jack 'cores', that's a TALL order. You'll have to fill and sand flush any/all rust/pit marks in the stamped steel components of the jack and then make the lead screw appear natural and pristine. That's NOT an easy undertaking!
So, my view is where did you want your deduction(s)...on the originality side of the ledger or on the condition side?- Top
