I plan on replacing the fan clutch on my 396 tomorrow. It seems pretty simple but I have a habit of turning "simple" jobs into a mess. Anything not obvious about unbolting and bolting on the new clutch? Appreciate any input!

Re: '65 Big Block fan clutch change
Nothing. It's very straight-forward. Remove the 4 bolts retaining the fan clutch and fan assembly. Make sure the pulley remains on the waterpump pilot shaft.
With the clutch and fan assembly off the car, transfer the fan to the new clutch. Then, install the assembly on the waterpump. Done.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

In addition to Joe's tips, let me add a cautionary note. After you remove the 4 bolts from the waterpump/fan flange set, there may be some resistance (or even none at all) getting it off the water pump shaft, resulting in the fan/clutch assembly falling forward towards the radiator, with the blades nicking the fins -- kinda ruins the visual symmetry.- Top
