Mysterious engine shut down.

After rebuilding and reinstalling my 427 in our '69 I have encountered an unusual to me problem. The engine starts up just fine. After running for 10 to 15 seconds it just shuts down. Any thoughts on a cause? It can be restarted too.

Dave, are you starting up a cold engine when stalling out? does it re-start right away?has the engine spec.s been set (timing, dwell, idle mixture, idle speeds for cold start and warm engine).

David, After the car shuts off don't touch anything and get a test light to see if there is current at the + terminal of the coil. This will eliminate the ignition switch and wiring up to the coil.

Process of elimination to see if it's electrical or fuel.

Ed & Tim, Thanks for your posts. The timing, points & etc are OK. I started it up and when it died I checked the voltage at the coil terminals, 0 volts. Looks like I will be doing some electrical checks tomorrow. Thanks again.

With a straight forward points ignition system, the usual thing to look at for a start/stall condition is the ballast resistor. However, since it sounds like you just put everything back together, you must recheck all connections that you made in the process.
