I have removed the undercoating from and cleaned to stainless steel the front splash shields located behind the wheel wells. Questions:
1. They appear to have been painted black. Should they be done in semi-gloss to match the frame, or semi-flat to match the engine compartment blackout?
2. The stapled rubber seals were toast. I see where Paragon sells them, along with a dust shield staple kit. Can anyone recommend a stapler to use?
I have also removed the undercoating from the inner splash shields that protect the underbody blanket insulation. BTW I am planning to have them re-Parkerized with manganese phosphate. Question:
3. Should the mounting tabs that attach to the underbody and frame be painted semi-gloss black as well? They are slightly corroded but I plan to leave them attached and just clean them up. Same goes for the pointed tabs that puncture and hold the insulation. I'm trying to avoid re-riveting. Note - I plan on just cleaning the lower firewall, transmission tunnel and underbody fiberglass in order not to destroy any markings. These areas appear to have never been painted.
Finally (is there such a thing?) did all 69s leave the factory with an insulator foam collar between the front of the tunnel and bell housing? Mine was missing and I've read where it is to be glued to the bell housing with weatherstrip adhesive. Is this correct?
