separation of A/C hose assembly from POA

After finally removing the evaporator core box to get to the A/C compressor hose assembly, I did manage to separate the POA from the evaporator core, but am still unable to separate the hose from the POA valve.

I've tried Freeze Off spray, PB spray, ammonia (to break down aluminum oxide), and even took it to a local shop to see if they could get the nut loose - all with no result. Their next suggestion was to split the nut to save the POA valve, as they were concerned that they'd twist off the POA threads.

Any other suggestions? I'm assuming that it would be easier to find another hose end than it would be to find a correct date-stamped POA.

    Thanks in advance.

Randel did you find a leak in your evaporator core after getting it out?

Jim - no chance yet to get the evaporator core pressure tested, but I didn't see any oil inside the core box, so I'll consider that a win for now. I'm still a little concerned about all the movement of the tubes (causing small cracks in tubes or welds) that happened while I was getting things disconnected, so I'm not going to ignore the need to verify that the core is still OK.

Unfortunately, the AC hose leak that I have was so close to the crimp that I don't think I could have spliced in a fix, otherwise I would have done so. I can also see that the other hose in the assembly was starting to deteriorate as well.

This will also give me a chance to fix two holes in the core box (or just buy a new one).

      Thanks

How was the metal that is obscured from view that faces the firewall in the evaporator container?

Jim - generally in very good condition - only a few very minor surface rust spots. Should be easy to clean up and reuse.
