Engine bay blackout, how far down the firewall?

I had the paint shop do the backout on my car. They painted the firewall black, but stopped at the point where the firewall turns to go down the footwells. In other words, the part where my job # is listed is still unpainted.

Should I leave it that way for judging or should I paint further down?

When I took the car apart, and it was a pretty original car, it didn't appear to have blackout on the angled part of the firewall where the footwells are.

My original 68 has the paint stopping at the angled area. On both sides you can see chalk marks,

Thoughts?

Some cars show quite a bit of black on the angled section of the panel. Others show none, or just a light mist coat. It would all depend on the angle of spray. Either way would be correct.

Here's the lower passenger side firewall on my 67, AOS car:

Just got back from the convention this weekend, and thought I noticed a post from you on the signal switch. The lack of holdback on a left or right turn signal is due to a broken off ear on the cam within the signal switch.

The switch or the cam can be replaced, but it is a fairly big job pulling the steering wheel to get to the switch, then removing and replacing it, if you haven't done it before.

There are problems with some of the replacement switches. I've gone through 3 replacement switches, although the last one from Shee-Mar, Inc. seemed to work great on my trip to the convention.

In addition to the signal tail lights, the hazard lights, and brake lights go through the switch and get distributed to the tail and front signal lights through the cam.

So if you have good brake lights, hazard lights and signal lights in the rear with your switch, and the only problem is the holdback on the turn signal, you might consider living with it. That is, unless you want to get really frustrated and anal, like me.
