1974 Rear Split Bumper Replacement

I'm just about to order a new "Flex-fit" (Eklers) 2 piece rear bumper. Anybody have any suggestions or advice as to who makes the best fiberglass bumpers for these cars, specifically with reference to FIT? Anything else I should consider?

In 2005 I purchased a "Tru-Flex" rear bumper cover from Corvette Central. I had my body man paint it and I installed it. I'm very happy with the product's fit and the way it turned out.

I used Tru Flex bumpers on the front and rear of my 74'. I am very happy with the way they turned out. Many people that I spoke to when I was researching bumpers said to stay away from fiberglass.

Get some pictures during the replacement, I'd like to see what condition of the support pieces are compared to mine. Also would like to see your final product. Good luck and keep us posted (excuse the pun ).

I have pictures of the front and rear of my vehile when the original bumpers were removed. I have never posted pictures. If you can tell me how to do that I will try to post some pics.

.....the Eckler's true two piece '74 "Flex-Fit" is the best '74 replacement bumper out there. The one piece TrueFlex has what resembles a "saw-cut" seam down the middle. The Eckler's has a perfectly contoured seam, indents for the license plate lights & license plate bracket holder indents nearly identical to the original. One easy way to tell an original bumper from a repro is that the repros will not have that small raised pad in the center of the "C" or the "O" in the chrome CORVETTE letters on the bumper itself.

If you go down below where it says "Manage Attachments", click on that, than click "Browse" and select your picture from your files in your computor and hit "Upload". If it won't upload (it will tell you), you may have to re-size the picture manually to size 800 x 600 I believe. Good Luck, it's not hard to do.

I like 74's a lot but I'm a C2 guy. Why the split down the middle of the bumper cover ? Is it a styling feature or did it make the bumper easier to manufacture or assemble ?

My guess is that they probably thought 2 pieces would be easier to handle at the time of assembly than 1 but obviously that didn't pan out and they then went to manufacturing all 1 piece covers from 75 on. Live and learn, just as GM is now.

On the front bumper I would use the GM replacement because the last few I have bought the color is black the same as the originals I have taken off. It is a perfect replacement but costs twice the price of a truflex but it can be picked up at your local GM dealer. For 74 rear I agree truflex is the best part out their.
