67 gas tank stencil color?

Here's a photo of my original.

I went to go buy paint for the stencil, and LIC only had white paint for 63-6. So, I had a buddy check his high top flight 67, and his stencil was black. After glancing at my original tank, I thought "black".

Now that I'm looking at it more closely, it looks like it MIGHT have originally been white like the 63-6 cars were.

Thoughts?

My may 67 gas tank stencil was white. The original stencil was larger than that supplied by the usual vendors. I found a stencil kit at a hardware store that was the correct size. However they had to be trimmed to obtain the correct spacing between the letters. I think the size was one inch.

My stencil was originally white. I had a stencil made at a local shipping Co. Perfect match using an old old stencil punching machine one letter at a time.

Steve, odd that yours is on the driver's side...all the ones I've ever seen have been on the passenger's side.
