I've been searching for a set of ralley wheels for the 67 to get it ready for judging. It currently has a set of Western bolt-ons with 1 correct GM starburst and 3 "made in Korea" so I think I need something besides them unless I want to take a big hit in judging. The car has a Dec 28, 66 build date. I have been searching for the "DC" wheels which I believe would be correct for that date. I spoke with a guy up at BG that thought the only wheel that would judged as far as correct code was the spare since the rings and center caps would be on the others. Is that correct? If so what is judged with the 4 on the car? Of course I realize they have to be correct "type" of ralleys, 15 x 6, with correct width/style rings, and correct style caps. Is there anything else? Thanks for any input, Shooter

Re: Ralley wheels judging
henry...try this. at the 2009 tahoe regionals a judge told me to leave my trim rings on because they do the "quarter trick". they were just interested in the spare tire. if it was a non-dot or not. anyways...you take a quarter and see if it passes through any one of the five holes. i just went out to my garage and tried it. the quarter passed through all my correct "dc" wheels and failed to do so on some after-market 6" wheels that i have in the shed and also failed on my regular chevy 7" ralleys. i guess that's alot easier than poping off all the trim rings.- Top

That's a neat trick. Quarter cleared my Dc wheels by about an !/8". Don't have any other wheels to try it on.

Re: Ralley wheels judging
You're welcome, Henry.
I found a few at a local "Old Time" gas station where they just threw the old weights onto a pile. The pile is now gone, so is the station.
There have been some surface in the Driveline from time to time.

Re: Ralley wheels judging
Sorry, I should have mentioned earlier.
Caution, "Micro" weights are still available, but, the current pieces have the "Metric Equivalent" cast into one end and may be "filed-off" to be passed-off as original, of course, most any Judge would know this.

Re: Ralley wheels judging
If I remember the story about wheel weights that was in The Restorer there were seven (or maybe five, I forget the exact number) suppliers of wheel weights. So just looking for MICRO weights will reduce your chances of success. A look at that story might enlighten you, especially if you judge exterior.Terry- Top

Re: Ralley wheels judging
Terry, I did find an article on the CD by Gary Beaupre which is probably the one you're talking about. I couldn't find which Restorer it was, I just did a search of "micro wheel weights" and it brought it up. Maybe Gary or some of the other's that contributed to the article will post and let us know so those that don't have the CD can find it in their Restorer if they need to. Thanks again, now I'll read the article.- Top
