I just read the adjustment procedure written by Duke Williams and John H. in the archives. I went out to try it but after looking at my balancer I said to myself how the heck do you mark it every 90 degrees? It is pretty tight in there. Whats the trick?

Re: 72 Lt-1 lifter adjustment
let's assume this has an 8" balancer. the circumference of it would be Pi * D or 25.13" Get a piece of masking tape that length and mark it every 6.28" and put it on the outside of your balancer and you should be close enough. Once you tape it on you could then make more permanant markings- Top

Re: 72 Lt-1 lifter adjustment
First be sure you have the latest revision, which is dated September or December 2008 IIRC, and the recommended cold LT-1 clearances are .016/.023".
You only have to be within about 10 degrees or so of the actual TDC points every 90 degrees. You can almost eyeball these. Or you can measure the circumference of the balancer (the cloth tape from you wife's sewing kit is good for this task), and make marks at quarter circumference points. With a nominal diamter of 8" the circumference is a little over 25".
You can mark the balancer on the outer diameter or front face. How you go about this depends on the year since access varies, but you might find that putting the front on jackstand to measure and mark from the bottom works best.
