    Color code on distributor

I have a 72 LT1. I recently had the original distributor rebuilt and the color code tab of paint was removed in the cleaning process. I know it should be a daub of yellow for the LT1 engine, but what shade of yellow. The exterior of my car is Sunflower Yellow. Would that work?

Also, where is the color code daub suppose to be? --- Just to the left of the distributor cap door, but on the distributor and to the right of the vacuum. The assumption is I am looking at the assembly from the front of the car.

Here's a yellow dab, althought it's on a service-dated 1111157 (note lips on magnet and hole for thrust bushing.

2nd pic is of a near NOS 1111296 with a white dab. Dab might have been applied when distrib in vertical position and sagged down.

I have another original 1111060_4C30 (just a few months after K66 was introduced to Corvette), and it has a slightly larger dab, and is either silver or white.

The hole for thrust bushing is OK for 1972, although I realize it is a "tell" for the 1111157 shown in your first photo. That hole for the thrust bushing began to appear on production distributors during the 1970 model year.

      Nice pictures BTW Wayne.

Wayne's yellow daub looks a bit smaller than those I can recall seeing, but it's definitely the right location.

The Delco distributor assembly drawings just show "spot of white paint (or yellow, purple, etc.) for identification"; no reference or spec for the paint.
