I just finished doing some work to my car and the next step is timing. I usually follow the service manual procedure to do this but I figured I would post this anyway. Is there a better way or maybe different specs to time the car?

Re: 72 Lt-1 timing
"Timing", assuming you mean the initial timing, is just a small part of the spark advance map that also includes the centrifugal advance, vacuum advance, and how the vacuum advance is actuated.
The spark advance map on your engine was set up for emissions, not performance or fuel economy. There is lots of information in the archives and on Barry Kimmelman's Web site (Including a paper by "Lars") on what constitutes and optimum performance/fuel economy map and how to achieve it.
