    C2 Ignition Shielding

    Hey guys:
I was reinstalling my ignition shielding after removing it to do some cosmetic maintenance when I noticed that the "rear clip" (#3838050) was missing. I don't remember it being there when I removed the shielding, so I wanted to know if it's worth spending $16.00 plus shipping for this little piece of metal. It looks like it attaches the upper ignition shield to the tachometer shaft via tiny "teeth" on the clip. Do I really need this piece, or should I use my money on 7 gallons of 93 octane instead? By the way, the car isn't being judged, so it's a question of functionality, not originality.

    Thank you,
    Roger (50141)

This is Heresy, but if the car is a driver, leave it off, the pain of installing the cover with the clip on it is not worth the hassle

      Couldn't agree more.

To add, a number of years back, a freind helping me on mine installed the clip backwards (teeth facing the firewall) and after getting the car to a local show I kept wondering why there was a faint burnt rubber smell under the hood..
When I started the car for the drive home, the start up caused the wiring harness to finally go up in smoke.
Luckily we got it under control quickly and onlt the harness needed replacement (still cost about $100 back then from Chevy).

Keep the clip handy for shows, but don't sweat not having it on all the time.

          Bill, Bob, and Bill:
Gentlemen, thank you for your advice. The clip certainly didn't seem very important with regard to keeping the shielding fastened in place. Furthermore, what's up with charging $16.00 for what is essentially a paperclip ? I will be heading to the gas station soon for some 93 octane before fuel price increase again !

          Best regards,
          Roger (50141)
