    Help in Identifying This Part

A few months ago, while working on my '65 L76 A/C coupe, I discovered a metal bracket inside the passenger side fender. I have attached two photos for your review.

One guy told me that it may be some sort of A/C bracket, possibly for the hoses. During chapter flight judging last April, none of the judges told me that a bracket was missing. Can anyone identify this part and tell me if it goes on my car? And if so, exactly where do I need to install it? -Clark

It's the bracket that esssentially mounts the Suction Throttling Valve (STV) to the A/C evaporator assembly. Check '65 AIM UPC C60, sheet D5, item # 25, part # 3845261. You're lucky the part was still with the car.

If nobody has done so before tomorrow morning, I'll post a pic or two. It's a difficult thing to photograph when on the car.

Hi Clark That part is the bracket for the POA valve on a Factory/A/C car. If your car has A/C Just forward of the evaporator by the Passenger fender. It is an aluminum assembly about eight inches high with an aluminum tube coming off the top. Look on the sides and there are tapped holes in the body for the bracket. There also should be astud on the evap panel for the bracket. Regards Jim Lucia

Here's the pics of my '65 C60 that I promised; hard to get a hand and a camera down between the heater hoses and the exhaust manifold.

First pic shows how the bracket bolts to the STV body; 2nd pic shows the outboard arm of the bracket where it is held onto a stud on the forward face of the evaporator housing with a nut.

If you have the 1965 Corvette Shop Manual, ref. section 13, pages 36 and 37 for much clearer drawings (than the AIM) and another photo.
