56/57 clutch and brake pedals

I have been told that the clutch and brake pedals for 56/57 Corvettes are different that the pedals for later cars. Something about the size of the pedal foot rest area.

Can anybody tell me what the differences are and how to tell what is correct for ma 56/57? I am talking about manual pedal assemblies, not automatic pedal.

Ed, the P&A shows 58 up was different from 55-7. 55-7 part # 3722709 and 58 up 3744719. 55-7 same pedal size as earlier passenger car. Metal size 3 5/16" x 1 5/8". Pedal pads 55-7 3657980 3 1/2" x 1 7/8" and 58 up 3744748. Gary....

FYI: Another third arm data point for you: 56 VIN 3976 has 3706203 GM on it.

Ed, here's comparison of 56-7 to 58 pedals from Corvette Central photos. Looks like pedal pad size was enlarged. Gary....

'56 #4232 has the aluminum shims from the factory. Jim Frakes did a study on these shims several years ago to determine exactly when these shims started.
