69 Tripower ac carb return springs

We are having difficulty hooking up the return spring on my 69 tripower a/c car. We are using the correct spring as per various sites, however the spring is getting hung up by the linkage. This keeps the front and rear carbs from operating, Any help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have attached a close up.

Are you using the additional bracket (Paragon pn#2012) that mounts to the rear carb stud? I have seen where the spring actually mounts in the hole of the acc. bracket.
