    pv/windshield wipers

i'm the process of prepping my 63 coupe for pv. i'm unable to adjust the wiper blades so that they don't hit the lower trim molding in "park" position and also not hit the side molding. it hits the side molding (especially on high). no matter how i adjust the arms on the shafts or adjust the blade screw, i'm not able prevent the blades from hitting the moldings. any suggestions would be helpful. thnx in advance, pappy

Pappy, make sure the blades are oriented like they're supposed to be. Photo in Service Manual that shows which blade is on top. Had my 64 blade reversed and they hit. JD had the same problem with his. Gary....

Should be passenger over the driver's side, right?

You may be suffering from worn transmission posts located under the dash. The arms (under the dash) are "staked" onto the transmission shaft and wear with use, causing the wiper arc to be longer than designed. I welded my under dash arms to the transmission posts which eliminated all slop at this location. Unfortunately you need to remove a lot of stuff to perform this task.

For those doing a restoration, I'd recommend welding these items while you have the car apart.

Also, if you have reassembled the wiper rods underneath the dash and swapped the orientation of how the rods connect to the motor, I think you'll also have a problem.

The rods underneath the dash should be installed with driver over passenger, just backwards of how the blades sit in the resting position on the windshield.

thnx gary, chris and steve. my wiper arms are rt.over lt. with the wiper blades in the vertical position, there could be enough "slop" to increase the blade arc. i haven't checked the the respective "arms" under the dash yet,but it probably doesn't look good as far as the "stake" being worn. pappy
