67 soft top warning label - judging?

I have a nice replacement white soft top on my roadster. It's nice, but whoever ordered/installed it did NOT order it with a label affized to it. I ordered a reproduction label today. Is it worth trying to see if someone could sew it in? Should I just glue it on for judging so I don't get dinged for not having one? Any thoughts on the matter? I would like to save all the points I can when she gets judged in Kissimmee. What do you think? Regards. ARA

Ara, they were sewn in. See if you can get someone to do that. Glueing it on won't cut the mustard in a judge's eyes. Bill.

Thanks Bill. I know they were sewn in, but taking my car to a shop to have them sew in the label is a SCARY proposition to me - and I'm sure a lot of our members.... I personally don't have any past experience with any shops here in Florida so I am going to have to "shop" shops...Thanks for the post..Regards ARA

        Ara,

Try the stick-on one, you might get by (I have). In any case, it is a minor point deduct (2+2).

If you tried to get one sewn in, it might take the same point hit for the sewing.

Thanks Jerry. Who sells the stick on one? I ordered one from Corvette Central and don't think it's the stick on type. No biggie as it was only 4 bucks. If you know who sells the stick on one, let me know as that sounds like my best bet. I am not comfortable with taking it to someone to sew it in. Thanks again to all for the posts. ARA

            Ara -

Long Island used to sell the self-adhesive one - don't know if they still do or not.

              Ara,

Wait till you get the one from CC. I think I got mine from LI, but the CC one might be the same with the adhesive strip.

Here's the story with my warning label.

I put an old Zip top on my 67 a few years ago. Had it stored in a box in the garage for about 15 years and finally decided to put it on. It had the stitched in warning label on it.

So after getting the top on, I figured I'd protect the label for future judging while driving the car. So I made up a little plastic envelope for the warning label, out of two clear plastic NCRS name badge envelopes. Used some double stick tape to hold it to the top so it wouldn't flop around.

Then, everytime I drove the car, I'd be paranoid about the warning tag. The double stick tape would give, and it would start flapping around in the wind. I'd be afraid to drive in the rain for fear it would get wet, I'd put a plastic bag over it when I washed the top. When I closed the top in the back latch, the plastic envelope had to be tucked under just right so the tag and envelope would stay in place.

Then one day when I washed the top, I forgot, and got water in the joint at the stitched seam. Within two days, the ef'n tag with the plastic envelope fell off.

So, I bought one of those stick-on types. No worries any more driving.
Just put it on before you enter the judging field, take it off when you leave, or it will get lost.

I would seriously doubt, that that tag lasted more than a week out of the showroom, on a driven car with the top up.

But I'm still having fun with it.

Thanks Jerry. I called LI Corvette today and they do in fact sell it still with the adhesive backing. I went to order it, and they told me they had a 20 dollar minimum order, so I will have to peruse their catalog and find a couple of other small items to spend the 20 buck minimum. I will keep you all posted on how she does at Kissimmee....Keeping my fingers crossed. Regards and thanks to all that posted replies. ARA

                  Ara,

I might see you at Kissimmee in January. Thinking about flying in from California for the event. Have a brother who lives in Lecanto, whom I haven't seen for a number of years. Is Lecanto, anywhere near you?
                  Or other TDB members?
