I am presently working on getting cutting the rectangular and square holes in the radiator top bar as found on original radiators. I have searched the tech board for information on the overflow clips that are supposed to be along the right side tank to keep the overflow hose in place and can't find any information on this. How many clips should there be? I'm thinking maybe two or three, and can anyone tell me the approximate spacing. Many years ago I worked in a radiator shop, and back then these clips always hit the floor and were never replaced when recoring along with the date tags. I know these were installed (soldered) into the seam when the side tank was installed on the core but can't remember the number of clips or the spacing. Thanks for the help.

Re: C-3 (70) Copper Radiator
This is just a guess, without checking anything -- but: The number of clips might be different depending on the application.
Specifically: If the cooling system had no expansion tank then the overflow tube would go through a plastic clip on the inner fender and one clip on the radiator -- and yes I am doing that from memory.
If there were an expansion tank there would be no overflow tube because the radiator cap would be on the expansion tank and the small tube from the passenger side radiator tank would go to the expansion tank and there would be no clip(s) on the radiator.
See the logic? Of course now we need to know your application and then check some cars.Terry- Top

Re: C-3 (70) Copper Radiator
I'm sorry. No expansion tank. Overflow hose runs down the side of tank to ground. 350 / 350 manual trans w - AC - I guess that I was thinking that if I had mentioned that the hose needed clips on the tank that this application didn't call for an expansion tank. Thank you.1967 L79 Sunfire Yellow Black Leather Convertible- Duntov

Re: C-3 (70) Copper Radiator
Again, working from memory on my 1970 LT1 there is a plastic tie to the inner fender near the top of the overflow hose and a clip lower down on the radiator. I think the hose doesn't stay in the clip very well.
Busy weekend ahead, but I'll try to get you a better more certain description and/or picture.Terry- Top

Zach, my 72 350 a/c car has one clip, I dont know that yours would be any different. id be interested how you do with the cutting of the of the top bar on radiator. I recored mine a few years ago, but did remove the overflow hose clip and dated tag. maybe a pic when finished? thanks Ed.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: C-3 (70) Copper Radiator
Thanks Terry, Ed and Paul. The clip looks nothing like I had pictured. I was under the impression that it was just a small piece of copper shim stock that was soldered into the seam of the tank and core, bent to accept and hold the over flow hose. As far as the cut outs on the top bar go, again thanks to Terrys post that I found in the archives giving measurements of the square and rectanguilar holes from his cars radiator. I combined his measurements along with measurements I personally took off of another car. The left side cut outs are finshed and they look good. Just a little time and patience. I look forward to anyone else's information on the number of clips and or the spacing of them down the tank.1967 L79 Sunfire Yellow Black Leather Convertible- Duntov

Do not ASSUME (you know about that word, right) that a 1970 LT1 is the same as a 1970 L46. It might be, but then it might be not. Do your own due diligence.Attached FilesTerry- Top
