    C2 horns quit working

I was driving to the Woodward Dream Cruise yesterday hit the horn button and all I got was one small honk and than nothing. I hit the button a few more times nothing happened but I can hear the horn relay clicking. Any ideas where to start? I thought it might be dirty contacts under the horn button but with the horn relay making noise I figured it must be something else. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Matt,
I would suggest, as you suspect, that it is the contacts on the horn button. I used a my wifes emory board on the contacts and that worked for me.

P.S. The Woodward Dream Cruise is starting to go down hill in my opinion.

No need to guess! Put 'science' to work and find out WHO isn't doing their job (steering column horn button, horn relay, horn(s) themselves...

Knowing how to decode the 'cheat sheet' Delco Remy embossed on the lid of the the horn relay, you can use jumper wires under the hood to fault isolate! The top of the horn relay is embossed 'S' and 'H' in such a manner that it doesn't matter which way the cover was crimped to the relay. The electrical terminal on the BOTTOM of the relay DIRECTLY below each embossed letter does the function the emboss indicates...

S = switch...that lead runs to the horn switch in the cockpit steering column. It's a simple contact closure to ground. Hook a jumper wire onto the S-terminal at the horn relay and ground it. The relay should 'click' and the horns should honk in response.

H = horn...that terminal supplies relay output power to honk the horn(s). Do you see full B+ voltage there when you manually ground the 'S' terminal? If not, you've got a horn relay issue.

If so, reconnect your wiring harness and verify the 'H' terminal goes 'hot' in response to pressing the horn button on the steering wheel. If it doesn't, you've got a problem in the steering column. If it does, your problem lies with the interconnect wiring to the horns, the integrity of the horns and/or their ground integrity...

        Rick/Jack,

Thanks for taking time to respond to my tread. I have to leave town for a few days and I'll check it out first thing.

        Thanks again,

Hey Matt, also check the ground from the relay to the radiator support. I am in the middle of fixing an identical problem with my car. Relay clicked, which told me it was working. I bench tested the horns and found the horns had gone - rust inside. Bench testing the horns saved me a lot of troubleshooting and diagnosing. Otherwise, the column is the next place I would have looked. Good luck. I sent my horns out for a rebuild and am dying to hear them honk when they get back...ARA
