    65 brake return spring

I have a 65 power brake, auto trans car (original) car that I noticed the brake pedal doesn't return like I remember in the past. We restored it about 10 yrs ago and dont drive it often. The brakes work fine but the pedal is slow to return to the top. Booster and master cylinder were replace during restoration.
We thought the return spring under the dash in the pedal cluster was broken, but there isn't one there!!
Do power brake cars not have a return spring, or do I now have a project on hand instaling a spring?? ( doesnt look easy, the shaft doesnt comeout without dropping the pedals)
so spring or no spring?? or is there another reason for my slow pedal return??

    Re: 65 brake return spring

Bill, Do a search in the archives as this spring was just discussed a few weeks ago. I believe there is no spring with power brakes.

I don't know if there is a spring inside the booster but I bet there is. I would like to install power brakes on my 63.

      Re: 65 brake return spring

just search archives and found that in 63 no return spring on power brake cars (john hinckley) that guy knows stuff !!
If that isnt the problem is there a way to check the power booster,and/or master cylinder. Mabe something simple like a spring in the booster that can be replaced, or vacume??. (nothing has ever been simple )
      love this tecnical discusion board.
will try archives for more answers.
      thanks

Bill, I can only say to check for the piston inside the master cylinder for not returning fast enough after releasing the pedal. I know you just love to hear that..

Don't overlook something in the linkage not straight causing this same problem. Why did you not use your original parts when the unit was restored?

Do you have the pedal pushrod clevis attached in the lower hole in the pedal? The upper hole is only for manual brakes, and if a power brake pushrod clevis is attached there, the rod will bind in the back of the booster.
