Got my rebuilt PG back in the 57 and I have a few questions.
First I set up the throttle valve lever as described in the ST-12 and in my Motors Manual. Then I adjusted the linkage at the FI to where the linkage is on the detent at full throttle. The ST-12 says add 3 turns to the linkage (lengthen) and then install in place on the throttle bellcrank. That is what I did.
When cool the transmission make a nice shift from 1 to 2nd gear at between 15 to 20 MPH. When hot it does not seem to shift as positive during the 1 to 2 shift. It sort of slides into gear. What can be done about this situation? Whan I shift using the shifter , the shift is more positive.
Will a better grade of transmission fluid help?
When doing the final adjusting I found that shortening the rod at the FI by 10 turns I was able to get passing gear. That adjustment also raised the shift point, but I still had the soft shift.
Since the adjusting rod has 1/4 36 threads the change when adjusting the swivel is about .027 inches per turn. Should 1 or 2 turns make a difference?
It seems that the throttle valve linkage is very critical to the operation of the transmission based on all that I have read. So I want to get it right.
Any words of wisdom to keep me on the right track.
ps, my 4360 FI unit is working perfectly. Hot start, cold start and general driving it runs great.
