    Re: 1996 Oil Filter

I have a NOS PF51 and a NOS PF52 oil filter that I bought in the 1990's for my S10 but never used them. Both are blue and appear to be externally the same. I know that they are different internally. The PF51 box is dated either April 1993 or April 1994 (see photo). There is no date on the PF52 box. The PF52 filter has an ink stamp "10543" on the bottom as well as a "10543" stamp "cut" into the white label (possibly 105th day of 1994, 3rd shift???).

I remember from back then: The PF52 has an anti-drainback valve. The PF51 does not.

        Re: 1996 Oil Filter

        Gentleman:

The attached photo shows two NOS replacement oil filters. One is a blue PF51 part number 25020908 and the other is a blue PF52 part number 25160560. I bought both of these filters in 1992.

The first photo shows my attempt to reproduce as close as possible a factory replacement oil filter for my 1992.

My research indicates the factory installed oil filter was a black PF51 with the following part number: 25010908. The silver label wording was different than the blue service replacement filters shown in the photo.

The black filter PF51 shown in the photo below was installed on my 1992 last July at the National Convention in Novi. I declared to the National Team Leader the oil filter as a non factory original. I also disclosed to all the Friday morning participants in the Advanced Judging Seminar when my car was on the lift that this was my attempt to reproduce a decent looking factory installed oil filter.

This filter is my attempt to REPRODUCE a decent looking facsimile of a factory original. This is not an original. The filter is a modern era blue Delco PF52 painted black via rattle can paint with my home made label. I have not been able to find any source where I could purchase an original NOS factory oil filter.

Now you know about as much as I know regarding 92/96 factory installed oil filters.

Finally, in another thread a question was raised asking if anyone knows of a source to purchase the Wagner plastic headlight bulbs for the 93 - 96 Corvette. I did a lot of research last Fall and Winter only to learn Wagner is no longer making the plastic headlight bulb. Perhaps one might check with Vette Pros in Charlotte, NC 704-249-0437 or Just Vettes in St. Charles, MO 1-800-886-8388. Perhaps either of these locations might have used Wagner bulbs.

I provided a picture of the original oil filter that came off my 92. The picture is in the 92-93 JRG. The build date of my 92 was in May 92.

You'll look forever if you're looking for an NOS black PF-51 or 52. As far as I know, none were ever sold in SERVICE. These were a PRODUCTION-only configuration.

              Joe:

As far as I can tell, you are 100% correct. I did a lot of research and I believe, like you, the black filters were only production and never service replacements.

                  Re: 1996 Oil Filter

I believe the "27742" stamping on your filter might be a date code (possibly the 277th day of 1994, 2nd shift or Oct.4, 1994).
This would agree with 12/94 build date of your car.

I have a NOS PF51 filter stamped "10543" (possibly the 105th day of 1994, 3rd shift or April 15, 1994) that was in a box dated either April 1993 or April 1994 (see photos in my post on Sept. 20th @ 3:05 PM.

Went down to the family vault and visited with George's Black PF51 Oil Filter today and found no date stamps. I took some close up photos of the label and also the top of the filter.

Back to the vault with it now for safe keeping.

I took it of at first oil change at 3000 miles. It has the OE stamp on bottom so dealer or GM could validate a warr claim I suppose.

John, I know this is an older post, but I'm considering also reproducing a PF-51 black filter. I will PM you when I hace a final product. I am going to a professional grafic artist to get him to duplicate the label. The edges need to be rounded off and AC Rochester may need to added under the AC red logo.

Gentlemen, here is the photo of an original 1995 (Early-until about December 1994) Black PF 51. This is the one that originally was placed on the Corvette at the factory.

It is safely tucked away in the vault at home.

The difference between the PF-51 and the PF-52 is that the PF-52 has an anti-drain-back valve and the PF-51 does not. Otherwise, they are the same.
