    Front Licens Plate For Judging

I do not have a front license plate so I have always had a corvette plate attached. I know this was not original equipment therefore I would assume to receive a deduction during judging.

Is there a point deduction if you mount a NCRS plate on the front with the license plate frame?

I would say yes that you may get a deduction. I have an original Zora Duntov signature on my air cleaner lid and it cost me a point. I think I would let it slide but I got a good laugh out of it.

As it was delivered to the Dealer, there was no NCRS plate on it. Take it off, but leave the mount. A NCRS decal on the vent window is allowed, do not cover the date code on the glass, Bill.

I always had a period appropriate chevy USA-1 slogan plate on my car when it was judged and I never lost a point at any level. I don't know if they just didn't care or if they reasoned that such a plate may have been a part of normal dealer prep.

            Erv,

I had my 1966 judged two years ago at a chapter event, with an original 1966 Michigan plate on the front of my car. On the back, I had a current vanity plate from Illinois. No one said anything to me about either one and there was no point deduction. It might just depend on the judge.

Agree -- this is at a Canadian dealer (Gorries Golden Mile, Toronto Ontario) in late Dec or early Jan 1972. I think it is # 09357, going by the yellow crayon on the windshield. I bought mine in Dec 1971, at the same dealer, and it was # 08196.

IIRC, the practice at that dealer was to charge you for registration and mount the (new) front and back plates for you, as part of dealer prep, so the car could be driven away when picked up. I don't know how that figures into the judging manuals.

I have never, ever heard of anyone losing points for the particular license plate that they had mounted on the front - or back - of a Corvette during NCRS judging. The actual plates are just not addressed.

I'm just a beginner judge but I have been instructed by the experienced judges that had the patience to work with me that I should not judge the plates themselves (whether present or not) - just the frames and frame screws. I looked in both of the TIM&JG's I have (older revs of the '68/'69 and '73/'74) and neither state anything about the plates that happen to be on the car.

Floyd, neither the newest '68-'69 or '70-'72 manuals tell the judges to judge the plates, just the brackets and hardware
