    Goldline tire options

I have always run radial tires on my 65 and now I'm thinking about going with a set of goldline tires. This is not a show car but a driver so judging is not a concern, but I have never driven on bias tires before and wonder if I will be disapointed. Does anyone make a goldline radial that is the correct sidewall color? For those of you who have original style tires on your cars are there any concerns of driving at highway speeds etc with bias ply tires? I also know that sometimes you can take a blackwall tire and have a redline or goldline cut into the sidewall which for me would be an option but I am not able to find anyone that does that anymore.
    Suggestions? Thanks

    Craig,
I have a 65 that came with Goldlines out of the factory, when I started to go through judgeing I put bias plys on. As soon as my judgeing days were over they were the first things I removed - it's like night and day. I would really doubt you would be happy with the ride and handling, do you have anyone in the area with bias plys who would let you take their car for a spin?

      Ed,
Thanks for the note and your comments do not surprise me at all and that is why I am not sure I want to spend the money for the "look" only without the ride. Do you happen to know if anyone makes a goldline radial?

Checkout Diamondback Tires at http://www.dbtires.com Go to the Corvette Tire Section.

They have an excellent reputation for quality radial tires for our old Vettes.

            Craig
I have gold line bias plys on my 65 convertible and i had them on my 65 396 coupe and i have never had any problems or complaints about the ride. I have never driven further than 100 miles so i am not sure about a long trip.

I've driven my car from North Carolina to New York with the bias ply Gold lines on it . I had no issues with ride or handling . As long as the front and rear ends are tight and aligned and tires are properly inflated there should be no problem. On that trip I hit some excessive speeds! Hope this helps, Jim

                Craig,

One more vote for Diamond Back Classic Radials - have goldlines and redlines on several older and newer cars for many years with many miles and no problems.

I have a set of daily driver radials on my car and am getting a set of show wheels/tires together. The only item I have not purchased for these are the tires. I will go with the bias ply for these. This is an option but not inexpensive.

Were the original tires on an early '66 with gold stripe tires - Goodyear or Firestone. I remember Goodyear, as I bought my '66 in November '65. Still runs and looks great!
